Alice Florine Stinnett

Alice Florine Stinnett, 77, of Newport, went to be with the Lord on December 18, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was of the Baptist Faith and had attended Southside Baptist and First Christian Church. She also enjoyed the televised service of First Baptist Church of Newport. Florine grew up in Hartford. She cherished memories of her childhood and spoke fondly of Hartford. One story she would share was of her being baptized in the creek. She always said that if you made a friend from Hartford, you’d made a friend for life. She met and married the love of her life, Hubert “Cleo” Stinnett of Cosby. They celebrated over 45 years of marriage. The light of her life was her son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Cynthia Stinnett and grandson David Stinnett and girlfriend, Samantha Hickey. Florine was an amazing cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family. She had a green thumb and had a talent for growing roses and hydrangeas. She had a special way with animals and over the years had loved and lost her dogs: Kikki, Buffy, and Lady. Florine is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, with whom she had always had a special relationship Ronald and Carolyn Laws, two nieces that she was especially close to, Rhonda (Larry) Sane and Susan (J) Moser, and a great niece whom she adored, Ashtyn Brooks and fiancée Blake Franklin. She had developed a special friendship with Ronda Gribble that spanned several decades. She is also survived by brothers and sisters in law: Barbara and Sherman Hudson, Sharon and Larry Trentham, Betty Shultz, Joyce and Eldie Roberts, Shirley Stinnett, Jr and Doris Stinnett, a host of nieces and nephews and employees of Stinnett Automotive group, many of whom have felt like family over the years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Creed and Martha (Freeman) Laws and brother James “Jimmy” Laws. The family will hold visitation on Thursday, December 21st from noon to 2 pm in Manes Funeral Home Chapel with a service to follow at 2 pm, with Dr. Rich Lloyd and Rev. Martin Stump conducting the services. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Cocke County Education Foundation, 305 Hedrick Drive, Newport, TN 37821.
