Betty I. Gentry

Betty I. Gentry, born November 3, 1937, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Her greatest joys were her children and her grandson, and her treasure Bentley. She attended First Free Will Baptist Church and loved her Sunday School Class. She retired from working with Dr. Williams in his office, and was affectionally known as BG. She also worked with Dr. Shults and Dr. Valentine at their clinic. She had a wonderful sense of humor, making all who were around her laugh. She enjoyed working in her yard and taking walks with her best furry friend. Her favorite activities, from making apple butter and trips to Red Lobster, always involved "The Girls". She especially looked forward to and enjoyed rides to Cracker Barrel in "Marilyn" with Johnny and Tammy. She took great pleasure in making pickles and giving them to the people she loved. She was preceded in death by her anchor, Lou Net Thompson Gentry; her father, Dorsey Gentry; the love of her life, Fate Coggins; cousin and sister of the heart, Sue McNabb; son-in-law, Rickey Derrick. She is survived by her son, Craig Gentry; daughter, Kim Gentry Derrick; grandson, Brandon Derrick; great-grandchildren, Bentley Derrick and Kandra Ivey; cousins and sisters and brother of the heart, Eula Mae Overholt, Margaret Styles, Lorene Gentry, Diana Grooms, Ennis Gentry, as well as the Taylor Clan, and her furry friend, Spanky. The family would like to say a special "Thank You", to Katie, Velma and Bessie for taking care of her at home, Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice, and all the staff at Tennova Convalescent Center for the love, care and compassion for our mother. Funeral services will be held 8:00 pm Tuesday, November 14, 2017 in Manes Funeral Home West Chapel, with Rev. Paul Moore and Rev. Roscoe Woody officiating. Entombment will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday, November 15, 2017 in Resthaven Memorial Mausoleum.
