Betty Jean King

Betty Jean King (September 22, 1929 - December 2, 2023) A beloved and devoted mother, wife, and grandmother went to be with her Lord on December 2, 2023. Betty Jean taught for nearly 40 years at the old Hartford School where she often walked off the hill from her home to pursue her passion for teaching students to read. Right to the end she remembered fondly, and still called by name, former students and coworkers. She was preceded in death by her parents Walt and Ima Brown, brother Hal Brown, son Mike Moore, husband and father of her children Manney Moore, and husbands, Mike Cagle and Clell King. She is survived by her loving daughter Nancy Raines, son in law Dale Raines, daughter in law Janie Moore, stepdaughters Sue (Bill) Mann, Donna(Jack) Henson, and Barbara Jo Croley, stepson Donnie Cagle , grandsons Manney (Liz) and Carter (Renee) Moore, great grandchildren Maggey Moore, Manney Moore II, Katey Moore, Janey Moore, and Carter Moore II. She is also survived by sisters in law Sylvia Brown and Alyce Moore, nephew Russell (Diana) Brown, niece Kelly (David) Miranda, special cousin Tip Brown, Moore family nieces and nephews; Deane, Joann, Lydia, Kathy, Mitzi, Sheri, Gail, Charles Lewis, and Shannon, and so many other friends and family. Betty Jean had an unwavering love for the Lord and her church family. For 67 years, through the highs and lows of a well lived life, she maintained perfect attendance at her church; first at Pigeon Valley then at First Baptist of Sevierville. She was a kind and giving person and an outstanding influence on her children, grandchildren and countless others. She will be sorely missed. The family will receive friends 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Manes Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the Manes Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Cocke County Education Foundation, Pigeon Valley Baptist Church or the First Baptist Church of Sevierville.
