Claude R. Strange

Claude Ray Strange, age 76, of Newport, went to his heavenly home awaiting him with Jesus on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was the Sheriff of Cocke County following his 33 years of service with the Tennessee Highway Patrol State Troopers. Claude was a member and former Chairman of the Deacon Board at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church. His favorite song was “I Can Only Imagine”, Now his doesn’t have to. He belonged to the Newport Masonic Lodge 4 and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rites Mason. He was a 50 year member at Newport Lodge and was a Kerbela Shriner. He was also a member of the Tennessee Highway Patrol Retired Officers Association and the NRA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris (Tommie) and Claude Warren Strange of Dandridge. He is survived by his wife, Earlene Lindsey Strange of Newport; his son, Claude Earl “Chuck” Strange (Nicole Murrell) of Newport; his daughter, Julie Strange of Newport; his grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Kayla and Tanner Strange of Knoxville; his granddaughter, Taylyn Strange of Newport; his pride and joy great-granddaughters, Emersyn Ann and Ellery Jane Strange of Knoxville; his special aunts and uncle, Gladys and Bill Sellers of Dandridge and Delores Williams of Dandridge; his numerous special friends in law enforcement and his special friends Kenny Brown, Ron Rice, James Moore, and James and Margaret Suggs, of Newport, also other family, friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 2nd from 4:00-7:00 pm at Manes Funeral Home. Burial will be held on Saturday, December 3rd at 11:00 am at Union Cemetery. The procession will leave Manes Funeral Home at 10:30 am. Pallbearers will be Willie Ramsey, Jason Ramsey, Tanner Strange, Chuck Strange, Derrick Woods, and Donald Suggs. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ron Rice, James Moore, and Law Enforcement. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Smoky Mountain Home Health, St. Jude’s, Alexa Austin’s Alzheimer’s Fund, or church of your choice.
