Elmer Rose Wines, age 88, of Newport, passed away on February 20, 2023. She was born and raised in Newport, Tennessee, the first of five children of Fred Lane and Zella Dover Lane. Elmer Rose was preceded in death by her parents, her high school sweetheart and spouse of fifty years (Charles Kenneth Wines); her Father-In-Law and Mother-In-Law: Charlie Wines and Connie Hartsell Wines; Siblings: Kenneth Lane, Johnny Lane, Lou Zella Lane Giles; Brother-in-Laws: Ruble Ball, Edward Sherrell Byrd Sr., Darrell Giles, Frank Wines, Ivan Wines, and Paul Wines; Sister-In-Laws: Alma Wines Ball, Alma Jean Willis Lane, Una V. Wines, Carolyn Sue Wines Parks, and Linda Sue Trentham Wines. Elmer Rose is survived by her three children: Edward (Nina) Wines, Joyce (Charles) Slagle and Kim (George) Wilson. She is also survived by the following family members, Grandchildren: Charlie (Jenny) Wines, Cayce Wines, Kenzie (Drew Valentine) Crumb, and Mike Wilson. Great grandchildren are Lindsey, Carly, Kendree, Kamlynn, Tucker, Karsyn, Grace and Lee. Sister: Shirley Lane Byrd; Sister-In-Laws: Peggy Wilson Lane, Brenda Wines Johnson, and Faye Wines Mullins, and Brother-In-Law: Wallace Parks. Elmer Rose was a member of the Union Baptist Church on Bogard Road. She loved her family and church family. She enjoyed family time, always wanting a family get-together. She was a kind, loving person, always had a smile on her face, always patting or hugging on anyone near her. She retired from Electro Voice on Rankin Road in 1999 where she worked on the assembly line making stereo speakers. She was the eleventh person hired at Electro Voice. She had many friends at work, her dearest friend was Ima Gean McGaha whom now resides in Illinois. The family wishes to recognize and thank Pauline (Polly) Owenby as Polly remembered Elmer Rose every week via a friendship card in the mail for the last 8 or more years. Upon her retirement, Elmer Rose was a faithful and loving caregiver to Kenneth, her spouse, until his death in 2003. The family would like to recognize and thank the CNA’s at Wellington Manor, Newport Health & Rehab and the staff at Smoky Mountain Home Health & Hospice for their care and compassion for our mother. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 22nd, 2023 at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral service at 7:00 P.M. Pastor John Hill will officiate the funeral. Burial will be at the Lane Cemetery 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 23rd, 2023, on Bogard Road in Newport, TN.
