Rev. Glenn Ball

“We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8 Rev Glenn Ball, 81, of Newport, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 12th, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and holding the hand of his beloved wife, Polly. Glenn lovingly served the Lord as a pastor over the years at Brown's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Rankin Missionary Baptist Church, Centerview Missionary Baptist Church, and Old Time Gospel Missionary Baptist Church. He also served as a deacon at Cosby Missionary Baptist Church and Allen’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and was called upon to preach revivals and sermons throughout East Tennessee and beyond. Glenn faithfully answered the call to preach wherever the Lord led him, ministering at funerals and visitations, performing weddings and baptisms, and sharing the Gospel with countless people throughout his years of service. His first calling, however, came before he ever stepped behind a pulpit, as the chauffeur for Polly, Darlene, Hilda Jean, and Glenda Ann as they traveled with their singing group. He was a faithful servant who loved the Lord and had a heart for serving others. Glenn never met a stranger and had a way of making those around him feel welcome and loved. His faith, kindness, and love for people touched the lives of so many throughout his years of ministry. Glenn also had a lifelong love for the outdoors. When he wasn’t in church, you could often find him in the hills, hunting or fishing. He taught his two sons and his grandchildren the skills he had learned throughout his life, from skinning rabbits and cleaning fish to working up a deer. He took countless hunting and fishing trips with his family over the years, creating memories, teaching skills and passing down a love for the outdoors that will continue for generations to come. Glenn retired from Sonoco Paper Products after 42 years of dedicated service. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family and serving those around him. Above all, Glenn loved his Lord, his family, and the people God placed in his life. Glenn was predeceased by his parents, Ike and Helen Ball; his brothers, James Edward Drew Ball, Brady Ball, and Larry Doyle Ball; his nieces, Melissa Ball, Lorie Ball, Krystal Ball, and Susie Ball; his in-laws, Richard and Pauline Stuart; his brother-in-law, Joe Stuart; and his niece, Terri Jo Stuart. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 61 years, Polly Ball; his son and daughter-in-law, Douglas James and Lisa Ball of Sevierville, along with his grandchildren, James Isaac Ball (Chad) of Fort Gordon, Caitlin Nicole Ball of Knoxville, Hannah Elisabeth Ball of Sevierville, and Daniel Glenn Russell of Sevierville; his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Wayne and Starr Ball of Newport, along with his grandchildren, Ariel Carrin Ball (Matthew Johnson) of Parrottsville and Eli Samuel “Sam” Ball (Kelsey) of Sevierville, and his great-grandchild, Cole Andrew Johnson. He is also survived by his brothers, Earl Ball (Euladean) and Charles Ball (Loveada) of Bat Harbor; his sisters, Mary Margaret Wilson (Ronnie) of Newport and Polly Ann Ball of Bat Harbor; and a host of brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends. “His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant” Matthew 25:23 Pall Bearers: Isaac Ball, Eli Ball, Chad Ball, Daniel Russell, Gene Stuart, Jim Douglas Funeral Services will be at 7:00 pm, Thursday, September 17, 2026, in Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Ron Ball and Doug Ball officiating. Burial will be 10:00 am, Friday, September 18, 2026, at Rays Chapel Cemetery in Newport, TN.
