John M. Ramsey

Beloved and loving father, John M. Ramsey, age 88, of Newport, was welcomed into heaven by his Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, on Monday, March 10, 2008. John was a carpenter by trade and applied his trade on many local construction sites in Cocke County. He also worked on the interstate construction sites as they began to develope in this area. Coupled with commuting to Ohio and Tennessee many times he did all he could possibly do to support his family in times of hardship. He loved to contribute his time and talents to various churches being built in the area. He could also be found working at Kaye's Restaurant, a business named after his daughter that was started by he and his wife Anna. In later years John returned to his original roots and began to farm. He enjoyed working with his cattle on the land that had been in the family's name for generations before him. A dedicated farmer, John served the land as long as his body would allow him to. Aside from being a servant of the land, John was also a dedicated servant of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Even into his later years, he dedicated himself to his home church, Wilsonville Baptist Church of Newport. While not only being a faithful member of the church and attending every service he could, John also taught a Sunday School Class for men. He did this duty for fifty years faithfully and to the best of his ability. John is survived by Anna Ramsey; daughter, Kaye Ramsey; Roger Templin; and grandson, Jonanthon Templin; special sister-in-law, Wilma Drinnon all of Newport; special friends, Larry Allison, Allan and Roella Linebarger, Pastor Jack Bratton and the congregation of Wilsonville Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 8:00 pm Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Wilsonville Baptist Church, with Brother Jack Bratton officiating. Entombment will be 11:00 am Friday, March 14, 2008 in Resthaven Memorial Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday at Wilsonville Baptist Church prior to the funeral services. He will sadly and forever be missed by his daughter Kaye. Well done my good and faithful servant. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wilsonville Baptist Church 120 New Cave Church Rd.
