Landra Jean Sims

Landra Jean Sims, beautiful, loved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, unexpectedly went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 7, 2024. She was born Landra Jean Skinner, November 8, 1946, in Wilmington, NC, as the only child of William and Myra Skinner. She grew up in Augusta, GA, where she met her beloved husband of 60 years, Martin. A wonderful wife, homemaker, and mother, she knew being a mom was the most important job that God could give her. She spent numerous years sitting in bleachers watching her two children's sporting events, hosting family during the holidays, opening up their home to many of their children's friends during the years, and making anyone feel welcome. There was always so much laughter with visitors around the dinner table. She had a beautiful smile, and everyone loved her the instant they met her. Her love for her children, grandchildren, family and friends was unmistakable. Landra and Martin later moved to their favorite vacation spot, the beautiful mountains of East Tennessee, 18 years ago. Their home was always an open "vacation destination" for visitors, as they would joke and say "this ain't no hotel". In her older years, she enjoyed the quiet of their mountain home, as she sat on the screen porch with her pets watching the beautiful changing of the leaves and the soft winter snowfall. She loved taking pictures, and sharing them with her family and friends. She also enjoyed music, movies, and family dinners out. Her absence will be felt strongly by everyone that knew her. More than anything else, she loved the Lord and was burdened for those that didn't know Him. She prayed for others to know her Savior. She recently carried the weight of the people that were devistated by Hurricane Helene, and in her last days, with God's guidance, she was able to extend help to those she knew were in need. Her love will live on in those that knew her and whose lives were touched by her. She leaves behind her loving husband, Martin Sims of Sevierville, TN; a son David Sims (Denise) of Hephzibah, GA; a daughter Lara Sims Vrieswyk (Tom) of Newport, TN; 3 beautiful grandchildren, Cameron Sims (Moriah) of Edgefield, SC; Harrison Sims of Hephzibah, GA; Leah Nichols of Waynesboro, GA; a precious great-granddaughter Aspen "Aspenelda" Sims; an Aunt, Betty Martin of Wilmington, N.C, and her beloved cousins. There will be a family viewing on Friday, October 11, 2024 from 2-4 p.m. at Manes Funeral Home, followed by a reception for family and friends at Liberty Church of Cosby 3541 Cosby Highway Cosby, Tennessee 37722 around 5 p.m. Family and family and friends may sign the guest register online at: www.manesfuneralhome.com.
