Reva Dean Rice

Reva Dean Rice, age 84 of Bybee, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2019. She will be remembered for her love of quilting and until recently, she continuously worked on a quilt which hung from old fashion quilt frame in her basement. She took great pride in her church, and she loved being able to donate a quilt to her church’s Lords Acre Sale each year, some of which brought several thousand dollars. She also loved gardening and being able to share the harvest with her neighbors, especially the special “purple” tomatoes. She married Jack, the love of her life, when she was 18 and they have been married for 65 years. Shortly after marriage they moved to Cleveland, Ohio for 18 months. When returning to Bybee, she worked at American Enka. However, the majority of her working years was spent as a teacher’s aide at Centerview School. She is preceded in death by her parents Boyd and Bonnie Thomas Fox; sisters - Geneva Heller, Mildred (Bob) Sollberger, Vienna (Wayne) Smith, Blanche (Winton) Smith, and Omeda Holt, brothers - Thomas (Dorothy) Fox, and Dale Fox. She is survived by her husband, Jack Rice; daughter, Teresa (Wayne) Buckner; grandchildren - Brandon (Kasey) Buckner (all of Bybee) and Sierra Buckner (Bristol, Tn); and her delight any and every day, Kenna Buckner - great-granddaughter. Other survivors include brother - Wilford Carl (Dorothy) Fox (Athens, GA), sister-in-law Barbara Fox (Knoxville, TN), brother-in-law - Burlin Holt (Kingsport, TN), cherished nieces and nephews, and wonderfull neighbors. Special appreciation and gratitude is expressed to lifelong neighbors Wayne and Brenda Ellison, her beloved Bruners Grove United Methodist Church family and also the Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice family. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Saturday, October 26, 2019 with funeral service following at 7:00 pm, in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Mark Barber and Bill Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Bruners Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery at 2:00 pm, Sunday, October 27, 2019.
