Roy Parks

Roy Parks, 85, of the Long Creek community, passed away Sunday April 14, 2019. He was a Korean War Era veteran, serving in the US Army, and was the last surviving child of the late Matthew Parks and Della McFeature Parks of Wolf Creek. Following his service in the Army, Roy began a career as a driver, starting in the coal industry with his brother. Returning to Cocke County and working as a school bus driver for the Parrottsville area, he especially enjoyed taking the Parrottsville High School basketball teams to their games. He later was a dedicated fuel truck driver for Cocke Farmer's Co-Op, serving and making friends all over the county in his truck, "Ethyl." Roy always loved to share exciting or humorous stories of his experiences behind the wheel, along with how proud he was to be able to help friends and family along the way. He and his wife Jean farmed in Long Creek and shared 64 years together. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his special cousin, Tyler Lee Boyd of Hilmar, CA; cousins Juanita (Fred) Lee and Deborah (David) Boyd, and special friend and neighbor, Frances Kilgore, all of Long Creek; special nephew and niece: Johnny (Pete) Parks of Wolf Creek and Debra (Fred) Buckson of Vacaville, CA; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by sisters Carrie Parks, Maggie Clubb, Sylvilla Parker, Jane and Jean Parks; brothers Ed, Carter, Clyde, and Lee Parks; mother-in-law and stepfather-in-law Sylvia Wilds Ross and Ott Ross. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 with service following at 7:00 pm in the Manes Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Norman Deal will officiate. Burial will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery with military honors by the Greene Co. Honor Guard.
