Timothy Lynn Dockery

Timothy Lynn Dockery, 64, of Newport, Tennessee, passed away peacefully in his home on August 27th, 2026. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Margie, sons Hunter (Shay) and Dylan (Tyler), siblings Cliff (Jennifer), Chris (Anna) and Angie (Carlos) and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents Dorothy Webb and James Dockery, and his nephew Rusty Dockery. Tim was born and raised in Newport, where his love for community started. He played basketball and football for Cocke County High School. He was recruited to play football at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. While in Chattanooga, he met his wife Margie and they later married. After their marriage, Tim and Margie moved to South Pittsburgh, TN where Tim took his first role working with parks and recreation department and later continued that passion for community in his hometown of Newport. Tim spent over three decades working for the City of Newport Parks and Recreation Department as Director. He was the heart of the department and oversaw countless community improvements throughout the years in various projects including the flowers at the bridges, the river walk, park to float and most recently the Woodlands Park project. Tim enjoyed coaching, mentoring and leading many young athletes in the community for 30 plus years and led the middle school basketball team to win the state championship in 2021 as well as state tournament appearances in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. When Tim wasn’t working or coaching, he enjoyed camping, watching sports, gardening, fishing and cooking. Above all, Tim cherished time spent with family and friends. He was a great husband, a loving father, dedicated brother and uncle, and an amazing friend. Tim will be remembered for his lifelong dedication to the city of Newport and the people within. His attitude, leadership, and love for the community had an amazing impact that will last for generations to come. The Dockery Family will be receiving family and friends in the Newport Grammar School gymnasium from 1:00-3:00pm on Sunday, August 30th, with his Celebration of Life to follow at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the Dockery family has requested donations be made in his name to Newport Grammar School Athletics.
