Wanda Ruth Ramsey

Wanda Ruth Ramsey, age 75, of Newport, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Newport Post-Acute and Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness. Wanda was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was a woman with a kind and loving heart who believed in treating everyone the same. Those who knew Wanda will remember her for the love she showed to her family and the kindness she extended to others. At the age of 16, Wanda moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she spent several years before eventually returning home to Newport, Tennessee, to raise her family. Wanda loved to sing, especially in the choir, and music remained an important part of her life. Most importantly, through all of life's joys and challenges, Wanda never lost her faith in Jesus. She was preceded in death by her son, Shango Ramsey; her daughter, Amy Ramsey; and her parents, Joseph and Lillie Mae Ramsey. Wanda leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Ashlee Ramsey (Theron Smith); her grandchildren, DazJohn Ramsey, Alaya Ramsey of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Julissa Robinson of Newport, Tennessee; and her great-grandchildren, Azaria Ramsey, Alorie Ramsey, and Parker Robinson. She is also survived by her sisters, Betty R. Chandler of Alexandria, Virginia, and Carrie Ramsey (Hamp) of Newport, Tennessee; her brothers, Roger Ramsey (Phyllis) and Jessie Ramsey, both of Newport, Tennessee, and William Ramsey of Morristown, Tennessee; and her uncle, Charles Stewart of Newport, Tennessee. Wanda also leaves to cherish her memory a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. She also leaves special cousins, Angela, Michelle, and Helen, of Chicago, Mississippi, and Michigan, who held a special place in her heart. Wanda's journey through life was marked by her love for her family, the joy she found in singing, and a faith that remained with her until the end. Although her earthly voice may now be still the love she gave, the memories she created, and the faith she carried will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Her family will forever cherish her memory and take comfort in knowing that the faith Wanda held onto throughout her life is now made sight.
