NEWPORT: GERALDINE WEBB MCSWEEN, age 81, died at Newport Convalescent Center on May 26, 2022, after months of dealing with complications from COPD. She was born in Newport, Tennessee on July 4, 1940, the third child of Mark Webb and Pauline Sutton Webb, and attended Newport Grammar School and graduated from Cocke County High School with the illustrious class of 1959. She attended Knoxville Business College and, for many years, served as Coordinator of Social Services and Activities at the Cocke County Convalescent Center, now known as Newport Convalescent Center. She was an active member of the Business Women's Club. As a single mom, with the help of her family and friends, she was able to provide her children a comfortable, loving home and they have responded with their love for her. When she married James C. McSween, Jr. in 1985, she mothered all of their children and grandchildren in a marvelous way and as the family grew, provided a home for all of them on holidays and special occasions. She grew up at First Baptist Church in Newport and joined a number of their members in establishing Southside Baptist Mission. Later, she joined West End Baptist Church along with her parents. When she married Jim, she rejoined First Baptist Church and served in many capacities. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Dorothy Webb Dockery, and her brothers-in law, Buck Hensley and James Dockery, and her sister-in-law, Betty McSween Welch, and her brothers-in-law, David L. McSween and William N. McSween, and by her former husband, Roy Paul Kelley. She is survived by her husband, James C. McSween, Jr. and her children, Paula Kelley Phillips and husband, Randy A. Phillips, Rodney Mark Kelley and wife, Carlie Bledsoe Kelley, Barry Grant Kelley and wife, Renee George Kelley, Jimmy McSween III, Stephen A. McSween and wife, Diana Williams McSween, and Philip S. McSween and wife, Belinda Smith McSween. Also survived by her grandchildren, Kelley Newsome Seibert and husband, Allan Seibert, Alexandra Marie Kelley, Barron Mark Kelley, Sutton Grant Kelley, Carty McSween IV, and wife, Caroline Segars McSween, Hannah McSween Cole and husband, Adam Cole, Grace McSween Satterfield and husband, Caleb Satterfield, and Jacob, Luke and Benjamin McSween. Also survived by great-grandchildren, Lucy Jean McSween, James C. McSween, V, and Marie Carolyn Satterfield. She is also survived by her brother, Billy Webb and wife, Wilma Webb, and her sisters, Sandra Webb Hensley and Kathy Webb Maes, and her sister-in-law, Mary Homer Fowler McSween, and brother-in-law, James G. Welch. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the personnel of Tennova Newport Convalescent Center and Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for their loving care. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church on Sunday, May 29, 2022 from 1:00 to 4:00 with services to follow at 4:00 with Rev. Tom Mooty officiating.
