Dr. Bolling W. Brawley

Dr. Bolling Whitfield Brawley, a beloved pediatrician and dedicated family man, passed away unexpectedly at his home on September 7, 2023, at the age of 67. Born on July 10, 1956, in Avondale Estates, GA, Bolling grew up in the area. He graduated from Emory University before joining the U.S. Navy as a 2nd Lt. and nuclear propulsion engineer aboard the USS Carl Vincent. After completing his service in the Navy, Bolling attended the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a pediatrician, following in his father’s footsteps. In 1992, Bolling moved to Newport and joined Dr. Sam Puckett and his sister Laura at Newport Pediatrics, where they established a thriving practice. In 1995, Bolling married the love of his life, Nancy, and together they had three daughters who were his pride and joy. He was the ultimate "Girl Dad." Dr. Brawley's care for his patients was characterized by unconditional love and generosity, often providing financial support for necessities like gas, medicine, or birthday presents. Beyond his medical career, Bolling actively participated in Newport First United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, contributed to events like Trunk-or-Treat, and won several chili competitions. He had a passion for flowers, blueberries, cooking, and off-road adventures in his truck. Some even considered him an “orchid whisperer.” Bolling enjoyed planning family vacations, which sometimes included a visit to Atlanta's renowned "Varsity" restaurant. He was equally devoted to his beloved pets: Tiger, Tootsie, Snickers, Clark, and Opal, always making sure they received their 10 o'clock snacks, often joking he was “just a pet sofa.” He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. William Brawley, mother Dorothy (Dot) Brawley, and brother-in-law John Graham. Dr. Brawley is survived by his wife, Nancy Graham Brawley, and their daughters Savannah, Blair (Nicholas), and Caroline. He is also survived by his sisters Dorothy Brawley and Laura Strader of Newport, brothers Gaston Brawley (Ellen) of Clayton, Georgia, and Don Brawley (Jane) of Atlanta, Georgia; nephews Burr Strader, Billy Strader, Lucas Graham (Jaymie), and Austin Graham (Meredith), Justin Parker (Jessica), Will Woods; nieces Julie Vila (Tony), Samantha Strader (Christine), Palmer Brawley, Perry Cargle (Cody), Emily Parker (Travis), Bella Woods; sisters in laws Elizabeth Parker and Julie Walker; brother-in-law Jay Graham (Courtney); and a number of great nieces and nephews. Dr. Brawley also considered the staff of Newport Pediatrics his family. Celebration of Life service will be held 5 pm Wednesday September 13, 2023 at First United Methodist Church of Newport, TN. The service will also be live-streamed on YouTube at the First UMC Newport channel. The family will welcome and receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the services at 6 pm on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to either of two organizations.
