Butch Moore

Ulysses Grant Moore Jr. (Butch) born August 10, 1938 of Newport, TN. formally of Bridgeton, N.J. & Tivoli N.Y., passed away after a valiant fight with cancer at his home on August 12, 2013. He had just celebrated his 75th birthday two days prior. Butch was born in Rhinebeck, NY to Ulysses Grant Moore Sr. & Verna Elizabeth Rion Moore. Raised in the Episcopalian faith, he spent the majority of his childhood in Tivoli, N.Y. before moving several times with his family and settling in Bridgeton N.J., where as a teenager he chose to stay with dear family friends Homer & Fannie Raines of Seabrook, N.J. when his family moved back to N.Y. In September of 1960, he met the love of his life, Duane Marie Fournier. They married October 28th 1967 and would have celebrated their 46th anniversary this year. Butch held several jobs throughout his life which included positions with E.I. DuPont, Pete & Hitch Ford & Gratz Datsun before making the life changing decision to purchase Brock's Open Air Market & Deli and moving to the mountains of East Tennessee in 1980, where he became a larger than life member of the community loved by most. Preceded in death by his parents and beloved stepfather, Fletcher Reid Simpson Sr., grandparents, and special friend Clay Webb. He is survived by his wife, Duane Fournier Moore of Newport, daughters & sons-in-law Pamela Marie & MSgt. Timothy Hefner (Moody AFB, GA.), Danielle Fournier & John Smith (Newport) and son & daughter-in-law Ulysses Grant III & Robin Moore (Key Largo, FL.) Grandchildren; SrA. Jonathon Rion & Katie Hefner (Andrews AFB, MD.), Autumn Brianna Hefner (Moody AFB, GA.), Davin John Smith (Newport), Danae Marie Moore (Pompano Beach, FL.) Lee Andrew Moore (Key Largo, FL) and Great Granddaughter, Alexia Belle Hefner (Andrews AFB, MD.) Brothers & Sisters-in-law, Frank (Susan) Moore of PA., William (Jerry) Moore of N.J., Fletcher Reid (Betsy) Simpson Jr. of N.J., Sister & Brother-in-law, Nancy Lyn (Richard) Keil of VT., several nieces & nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, brothers & sister in-law, extended family and many special friends including Ernie Owens. Butch despised funerals. He hated to say goodbye to people who were in his life. He always said he never wanted a funeral. He hated the sadness and the atmosphere that is a funeral. Butch maintained his sense of humor until the end. Sarcastic one liners and jokes went on every day until the end. Butch loved life and lived it with gusto; so in following his wishes the family will be having a CELEBRATION of his life in the very near future. Butch would want to be remembered for his humor, lifelong friendships, new friendships and as the owner of Brock's Market, even though we all know he depended on his wife Duane when it came to Brock's. The family is planning a future memorial service where they will ask for family and friends to please help celebrate Butch's life in a way that he would have enjoyed.
