D.C. Ramsey

D.C. Ramsey left his earthly realm, to be with the Lord, April 10, 2025. John and Opal Ramsey welcomed D.C. into life April 4, 1940, he just celebrated his 85th birthday. He was one of six born to them in the Wolf Creek community! D.C. was known and loved by many and was considered a fixture in Cocke County. He started his long career in law enforcement as a Cocke County Constable in the sixties, then on to the Cocke County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy. The Newport Police Department was his home, as policemen, where he served from 1974-1998. Upon retirement, he ran for the Sheriff of Cocke County, where he was elected in August 1998, and served till he retired in 2006. Although law enforcement was his primary career, he also drove a school bus for Cocke County Schools in the Del Rio community, worked at Stokely’s can shop, cut timber and firewood, and loved working with his tractor. He was a kind man who cherished his family and friends. D.C. belonged to Newport Lodge #4 F&AM, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Knoxville, Kerbela Shriners Temple, Knoxville, and Cocke County Shriner’s Club. He was very proud to be a Shriner and strived to set a good example as one. D.C. was preceded in death by, his parents, beloved wife, Wilma, brother, Barney Ramsey, sisters, Vivian Ramsey, and Mary Ramsey, special sister-in-law, Brenda Ramsey, great grandson, Layton Reed. He is survived by sons, Mark Ramsey (Sally), Jerry “Spanky” Holt Jr. (Barbara), daughters, Rebecca Ramsey (Ricky Parton), Deborah “Susie” Moore (Carrol), Leasia Reece, and Kim Finchum. Grandsons, Jarrod Holt (Sarah), Josh Holt (Ben), Eric Reece (Misty), Eli Ramsey, and Rylan Parton. Granddaughters, Stacy Reece Frost, Ashley Clevenger (Jonas), Macie Reed, and Alexis Parton. Great grandchildren, Ariela Holt, Cambree, Brylee, and Kamen Clevenger, Michael and Murray DiNello, Lydia Reece, Jaycee Reed, and Colsyn Henderson. Brother John Dale Ramsey, sister, Brenda Ramsey, and very special sister-in-law, Carolyn (Sis) Ramsey. Also, a host of nieces and nephews, and his special cat Boots, and many special friends. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2025 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel. The Masonic service, followed by traditional service by Reverend Fred Cagle, will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Newport, TN following the funeral service.
