Ella Mae Large

Ella Mae Large, 85, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on June 14, 1941, Ella Mae was preceded in death by her husband, McDonald “Don” Large; grandson, Brandon Large; parents, Kenneth and Jennie B. Allen; brother, Ruble Allen, wife Jean Allen; sister, Thelma “Sit,” husband Charles Williams; brothers-in-law, Charles “Butch” Atkins and Wendell Freeman; and sister-in-law, Brenda Allen. She is survived by her children: Donald Large, (Candy), David Large, his wife, Diane Large, and Lisa “Large” Stewart, her husband, John Stewart. She is also survived by her granddaughters: Meagan Cutshaw, (Jonathan), and Carly Large. She was blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Kaylee Large, (Eli), Landyn Cutshaw, Jaxson Cutshaw, Makynzie Cutshaw, Bradyn Cutshaw, Carter Cutshaw, Kinleigh Large, Kyzer Large, and Kanaan Large. Survived by her brothers, Jack Allen and Roger Allen, and her sisters, Faye Atkins and Joann Freeman. She is also survived by Corey and Jaymie Keifer, and many other nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish her memory. Ella Mae lived a life centered on faith, family, and service, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and love. She was a dedicated teacher’s aide at Newport Grammar School, where she touched the lives of countless students with her caring heart and gentle spirit. She was also a faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where her faith guided her throughout her life and where she enjoyed worshiping alongside her church family. Ella Mae found her greatest joy in caring for others and celebrating the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Though her family mourns her passing, they find comfort in the treasured memories she leaves behind and in the lasting example of faith, love, and grace that she lived every day. Her legacy will continue through the family she loved so deeply and the many lives she touched throughout her years. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love. Graveside service: July 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Allen’s Cemetery. The graveside service will be officiated by Pastor Robert Williamson, with guitar music and vocal selections by Regina Freeman.
