J D Suggs

J.D. Suggs peacefully entered the presence of Jesus on Sunday, June 28th. He was welcomed at heaven's gates by his parents, Leonard and Beulah Suggs; parent in-laws, Buford and Lydia Medley; brothers, Arvile and Ronald Suggs; and sister, Janette Teague. J.D. leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, protection, wisdom and support for his beloved wife of 66 years, Louise Medley Suggs, children Louisea Suggs, Denise Suggs Davis, and Shannon Suggs, grandchildren Ben (Alison) Davis, Chase (Jessie) Suggs, Lucas Davis (Terra), Jackson (Bailey) Suggs, Jacob Suggs, and Natalie Suggs, great-grandchildren: Ashton, Kenzie, and Blakely Davis; Sawyer, Dakota, and Tucker Suggs; Rylan Johnson; and Addy and Taygen Pickel and great niece Jessica (Travis) Eslinger and many more nieces and nephews He and Louise also opened their hearts and home to countless young men and women, loving and mentoring more than can be named. A faithful servant of his Lord, J.D. was an ordained deacon at Northport Baptist Church. His ministry took many forms: he led the Royal Ambassadors (RAs), drove the church bus for children and senior citizens, and was always present to lend a helping hand. J.D. loved his town and dedicated his time to serving the community, including serving as a CLB member and a bailiff in the court system. Throughout his life, J.D. was a hard worker. His career included jobs at Herman Knowles store where he met Louise, Taylor Grocery, Wall Tube, Stokely’s Can Shop, the County Garage, and the Pet Milk company, as well as serving as a bus driver for the Probe rafting company. Above all, J.D. was a devoted family man. He loved gardening, taking care of his yard and home, and birdwatching from his back porch. His happiest days were spent at the beach, on the road visiting his family, or simply sitting beside his wife. He was a constant presence—ready to help a family member move, or answer a call for help at any time of day or night. J.D.’s big, magnificent life is impossible to capture in words. If you knew him, you were truly blessed. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 2nd at Northport Baptist Church from 2-4 pm with the service at 4:00 pm. Burial is Friday July 3rd at Suggs Cemetery on Neddy Mountain Road in Mannings Chapel at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice.
