Lois "Joy" Stokely

Lois “Joy” Stokely March 21, 1958-July 24, 2026 Joy was the ninth child born to Rev. Hubert J. Hall, Sr. and Sammie Doris Matthews Hall on March 21, 1958. Joy was born at Valentine Shults Clinic in Newport, Tennessee. Joy lived in White Pine until the family moved back to Cocke County to the Cosby area where she attended Cosby Elementary School. She graduated from Cosby High School in 1976. Joy also attended Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee. After returning to Cocke County, Joy worked many jobs with the most time (35 years) as Recreational Director at Regency Nursing Facility - later under other names. Most recently, she was employed as a hostess at Big Boys Restaurant in Newport, TN. When Joy was 5 years, one Sunday evening Dad preached on Hell. I happened to be home from college that weekend. After we had gone to bed, Joy woke me and was crying because she "didn't want to be the only family member not going to heaven." I took her to our parents; in talking to Dad, Joy understood and accepted the Lord as her Savior. From that time, her relationship with the Lord has been the major factor in Joy's with a strong emphasis on music. Joy was widely known for her boldness to witness and to always sing for the Lord when given the opportunity. She will be greatly missed in our county and surrounding areas. Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Stokely, Jr., a son, Dustyn Scot Stokely, and a daughter, Samantha Faye Stokely. She was also preceded in death by her father, Rev. Hubert J. Hall, Sr., her mother, Sammie Doris Matthews Hall, an older sister, Marilyn Doris Hall Cutshall, a niece, DorisAnn Cutshall Campbell, her husband, Robert Campbell and a great-niece, Aribel Campbell plus grandparents and many uncles, aunts, and cousins. Joy is survived by brothers, Hubert J. Hall, Jr. of Newport, Wayne Hall (Shirley) of Sevierville, Ronald Hall (Renee) of Corryton, Steve Hall and John Hall of Cosby. She is also survived by sisters, Elaine Terry of Cosby, and Nina Meisenheimer of Asheville, NC. Joy is also survived by two aunts, Jewel Hall Lafollette, Newport, TN and Lola Hall Hitchcock, of Illinois, and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Manes Funeral Home. Service will follow at 1:00 pm, in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Vince Keeton Pastor of Grace Baptist Church, Newport. Burial will be at Dunn Cemetery, Splashaway Road, Newport immediately following the service.
