Maurice Edward Moore

Maurice Edward Moore, 73, of Parrottsville, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, November 4, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was known as a kind and loving man who cared deeply for his family and friends. Maurice was a 1968 graduate of Cocke County High School, where he was a member of the FFA. In 1969 he was drafted into the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany and later in Washington State. He served many duties, including excavation work and the Honor Guard. Upon his return home, he began a lifelong career in excavation, working for Ashland Oil Company, MelCo, and Mule Deer. These experiences led him and his brother, Dennis Moore, to create their own excavation company, Moore Brothers. Maurice had a love for all things heavy equipment and was an operator for his entire life. Mr. Moore’s hobbies included Nascar and dirt track racing, attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, tinkering on his trucks and equipment with his son, and working in his garden. He loved getting together with his family for cookouts and fun celebrations. Maurice enjoyed taking Sunday afternoon drives to see the local scenery and have an ice cream or a bag of popcorn. He was a joyful person who rarely had anything negative to say. He was always good for a laugh or a “Tall Tale.” Maurice attended Bethel Baptist Sunday School class. He was the son of the late E.L. “Chub” Moore and the late Lois Finchum Moore, also preceded in death by his niece, Tina Maples; and brother, Dennis Moore. He is survived by his daughters, Erin Moore and Marci (Jordan) Cox; son, Caleb Moore; granddaughter, Kirsten Moore; grandson, Jasper Cox; sister, Bettye (Dave McVicker) Maples; sister-in-law, Sharon Moore; friend and former spouse, Shirley Moore; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Pallbearers include Travis Moore, Tyler Moore, Jordan Cox, Dave McVicker, Kenan Bible, and Jeff Dellinger, and honorary pallbearer Brent Maples. The family will receive friends 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Manes Funeral Home. Service to follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Harvey Evans officiating, in the Manes Funeral Home Chapel.
