Ray Willus Featherston

Ray Willus Featherston, 85, of Cosby, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3, 2025. Born on July 14, 1940, in Tatumville, Tennessee, to Homer and Dessie Featherston, Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Ludie Wilson (Keith), Elizabeth Hillard (Earl), and Martha McKnight (Bill); his brother Buck Featherston; and daughter Heather Lane. Ray lived a life defined by devotion, humility, faith, and kindness. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, he led by quiet example—always putting others before himself, always choosing what was right, and always giving more than he ever asked in return. His steadfast spirit and gentle strength left an imprint on everyone blessed to know him. A proud Tennessean, Ray was an enthusiastic Tennessee Volunteers fan (Go Big Orange!) and loved baseball. He found peace in fishing, joy in tending to his garden, and comfort in a good nap in his favorite chair. His appreciation for music was wide and varied, and his sense of humor was unforgettable. If he needed to slip away, he was always “going to see a man about a dog,” and when asked how the food was, he would grin and say it was “never any good.” Ray was a faithful member of Cowboy Church in Newport, Tennessee, where he found deep fellowship and spiritual nourishment. His unwavering faith guided his life and shaped his legacy. He is survived by his loving wife, Mona Lisa Featherston; his sisters Dorothy Douglas (Oliver) and Patsy Barr (Bill); and his children: Tammy Cherry (Steve) – Kenton, TN, Tim Featherston (Dawn) – Wheaton, IL, Misty Justice (Joe) – Prosper, TX Michael Rasnick (Hilary) – Daphne, AL, Tanner Flynn – Cosby, TN, and Gavin Foust (Kayla) – Cosby, TN. He leaves behind his adored grandchildren: Brooke Carrell, Michelle Thomas, Noah Justice, Isaac Justice, Laylah Rasnick, Xander Rasnick, and Forrest Featherston, as well as cherished great-grandchildren Izzie Jones, Ethen Carrell, Essey Carrell, Zeke Carrell, and Kingstyn Flynn, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Ray’s words, warmth, and selfless example will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him. His legacy lives on in the faith he lived, the love he gave, and the family he cherished. His memorial will be held Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Rocky Grove Baptist Church 123 South Rocky Flats Rd, Cosby, TN 37722 at 3:00pm.
