Una Bell

Una Merle Gay Bell went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 7, 2017, at her home. Una was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on August 5, 1933. After high school, Una served honorably as a Tech Sergeant in the United States Air Force where she worked as a weather observer. She met an Air Policeman by the name of Dallas Frank Bell whom she married in Puerto Rico on December 7, 1955. Una earned her Associate of Arts from North Greenville University, Bachelor of Arts from Carson-Newman University, and Master of Arts from East Tennessee State University. Una taught at Smoky Mountain Elementary School and Cosby Elementary School. She retired as a lifelong educator. She was an active member of Webb Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School leader, and pastor's wife. Una is preceded in death by her parents, Alice Howard Gay and Edward Ernest Gay, Jr.; her siblings Howard Gay, John Irving Gay, Jim Gay; and her son Joel Fred Bell. Una is survived by her husband of 61 years, Rev. Dr. Dallas Frank Bell; her children, Dallas Frank Bell, Jr. (Janice), John Alton Bell (Vida), daughter-in-law Carol Bell, Daniel Mark Bell (Sharon), Linda Coral Bell Meeks (Marty), Rebecca Grace Bell Hunter (Rex); her grandchildren, Luke Bell, Meredith Bell, Alicia Datzman (Alex), Jenna Bell Layrock (Cedric), Kayla Bell, Trevia Berry (Larry), T.J. Meeks (Becky), Sam Meeks, Mickey Meeks, Hannah Hunter, Thomas Hunter (fiancé, Elizabeth), and Carmen Hunter; and her great-grandchildren Grace Datzman, Jazlin Layrock; Makiland, Kourtland, and Ashland Bell; Justin, Jon, and Joanna Berry; Luke and Lydia Meeks; Cameron, Leah, Lani, Braden, Ava, and Carter-Lee Meeks and Eric Schrimsher. Una is also survived by her siblings Bertha Marx, Mark Gay, and Norma St. John. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2017, with a memorial service following at 2:00 pm in Manes Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon's, P. O. Box 1217, Newport, TN 37822, for Bibles to be placed in Una's memory. Also, memorials may be made in Una's memory to the scholarship fund of Cosby High School's Fellowship of Christian Teenagers at 3320 Cosby Highway, Cosby TN 37722.
